Élia is currently completing her Honours Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies with a Minor in Geomatics and Spatial Analysis at the University of Ottawa. As part of her honours thesis, she is investigating changes in the area of small glaciers in the St. Elias Mountains, Yukon, over the past 75 years. Her research combines historical aerial photographs with modern satellite imagery to track and quantify changes in glacier area over time.
Although she was raised in the cold, her passion for glaciology truly developed during the Iceland Glaciology Field Course with the University of Ottawa. In the future, Élia hopes to become a university professor and share her passion for glaciology with the next generation of students. She is excited to continue developing her research experience by pursuing a MSc with Dr. Luke Copland next year.
An outdoor enthusiast who is always on the move, Élia can usually be found running, enjoying a good cup of coffee, hiking mountains, playing hockey, biking around town or planning her next adventure.
